This is a fold-down shower seat with real wood slats, not plastic standing in for wood. The seat is built from 1-inch-thick African Okoume hardwood mounted on a stainless steel frame, and it folds flush against the wall to about a 3-inch profile when you're done showering.
It's rated for 600 pounds, well beyond what most folding seats carry, and the frame has no gaps where a finger could get pinched while folding it up or down. The mounting plate lines up with standard 16-inch stud spacing, so in most existing bathrooms it goes in without opening up the wall. Okoume is naturally water-resistant, and Ponte Giulio backs the wood for two years in wet use; if a slat ever needs replacing, replacement slats are sold separately rather than forcing a whole new seat.
Why we chose this: A shower seat that looks and feels like furniture is one people actually want to leave installed, instead of feeling like medical equipment bolted to the tile. This one does that without giving up the weight rating or the no-pinch hardware that matters.

Installation & detailed specifications
Mounts to the wall with the included stainless steel fasteners; mounting flanges sit 16 inches apart to land on standard wood studs. The included hardware is also suitable for concrete, solid masonry, plaster, natural stone, drywall over wood stud, and plywood backer board — it is not rated for hollow/perforated block. As with any grab bar or seat, the wall must be flat and free of weak spots, and every screw needs to be properly seated; a missing or loose screw significantly reduces the load rating.
Net weight is about 20 lb. Packaged dimensions are roughly 17 11/16" x 5 1/8" x 21 11/16", about 22 lb shipped. Clean with a soft, damp cloth and liquid soap; avoid bleach, abrasive cleaners, and strong acids, which can dull the finish over time. Ponte Giulio guarantees the wood for two years in wet/shower environments, and replacement wood slats are available for both the seat and backrest.
